In affirmative present and past simple sentences, do, does or did can be added and stressed to emphasise the statement, often to contradict or correct something.

• Adding emphasis in speech

• The main verb stays in the base form after do/does/did
• Used in positive statements only
• In speech the auxiliary is stressed; in writing it may be italicised
