In spite of và despite có nghĩa giống nhau, diễn tả sự tương phản, theo sau là danh từ, V-ing hoặc the fact that + mệnh đề. Không nói despite of. Chủ ngữ của động từ chính phải là người thực hiện hành động V-ing.

In spite of and despite have the same meaning and express contrast. They are followed by a noun, an -ing form or the fact that + clause.

4Quy tắc cần nhớ

Despite is never followed by of
With -ing, the subject of the main verb must also carry out the -ing action
Perfect -ing (having done) shows the action happened earlier

In spite of the heavy traffic, we arrived on time.
Despite feeling ill, she finished the marathon.
He passed in spite of the fact that he hadn't revised.
